Well, tonight our last class was cancelled due to the weather, but I decided to make my final cake project anyway. It was a lot of fun learning how to work with fondant and the tiered cakes. I wish there were more classes around here to take, but I hear there are quite a few seminars at the Wilton school in Chicago. Now, I just need to convince Brent and I'm there!!!
Maybe its just because we are the parents and we are excited that Kennedy has a new trick, but we thought this was HILARIOUS!!!!
Since Kennedy has learned to sit up on her own we have put her in a bigger bath where she can play around a little bit more. She didn't know quite what to do when we first put her in, but quickly adjusted and loves playing with her toys in the water. Previously we have taught her how to splash in the tub by kicking her feet and splashing them in the water, but when I told her to splash sitting up she didn't know what to do. She tried kicking up her feet, but quickly ended up on her back with a confused look on her face. We'll have to work on splashing with our hands now.
A couple of weeks ago, Brent decided to ask me out on a date for Friday night. Needless to say...since Kennedy has been born...its been awhile since we have done something with just the two of us. So, when I heard the plan I was pretty excited. Brent arranged the babysitters and told me that a few friends were getting together to go ice skating. It was kind of hard leaving Kennedy with our first non-family babysitters, but we were the only ones who were worried. She didn't mind at all going to bed without us. Where's the love??? It had been awhile since either of us had been ice skating (as you can tell from the pics) and we decided that when we had the money we would invest in some nice skates. Rentals kill your ankles!!! We ended up having a lot of fun and we look forward to our next little date night.

Pretty much since we have lived out here in Iowa the last year and a half, we have come to find out that Iowan's are really proud about 3 things; the field of dreams, corn, and the iowa caucus. January 3rd we decided to try out the one thing we haven't experienced out here - The Iowa Caucus. It was quite the interesting experience and a lot different than what we were expecting. We thought we would just go write our vote on a ballet and turn it in, but it turned out to be much less formal. We showed up to the local high school where they had the republicans in one room and the democrats in another. You were split up into groups and then each group had volunteers who talked for 2 minutes about each of the candidates. They then gave us a piece of paper and we wrote down who we would vote for. They tallied the votes and read the results out loud. They then did a bunch of other political business and we were done. So I guess that's our claim to fame - we participated in the Iowa Caucus. Kennedy even got into it and showed her support for Romney!!!
A few days before Christmas I decided that I needed to do a little present wrapping, so Kennedy and I got out all of our gifts and the paper and started wrapping them all up. I decided to play a little trick on Brent to see how long he could hold out without peeking at his gift. I put a present addressed to him from Kennedy in a gift bag under the tree with just a little tissue paper. That night when Brent got home from school I showed him all the presents he had underneath the tree and told him specifically not to look in the gift bag because there was only tissue paper between him and the present. I told him I was running a few errands and to make sure not to peek. What he didn't know was that I had wrapped the present inside the bag and put a little note saying PEEKER :( on the outside of the wrapping paper. I came home from my errands and inquired about his curiosity and the present. After a lot of questioning I found out that he has more patience than I. He didn't look, but I really wasn't satisfied because he didn't play into my joke. I ended up making him look anyways and we both had a pretty good laugh about it all. What I came to find the next day, was our little girl wanted to get into the presents as much as I did. KENNEDY WAS OUR PEEKER:( !!!
Christmas Eve we ended up going out to dinner at Lou Malnaties in Chicago. You can't go to chicago and not get pizza. Its definitely not as good as Giordano's, but still up there. After dinner we headed around the suburbs to check out christmas lights and then it was back to the house for a little FHE. We got all dressed up and acted out the Nativity and then it was time to play Santa. Christmas is so much more fun with kids - even if she has no clue what's going on!!!
This year we weren't able to go back to Utah for Christmas, but luckily Brent's brother lives in Chicago so we were able to be around a little family this year. We headed out to their place on the 22nd and stayed for almost a week. We had a lot of fun. It was so much fun to have Kennedy. Kids make christmas so much more fun, even though she's not really old enough to get into it, it was still a ton of fun. Kennedy got an exersaucer, I got a laminator, running shoes, and a surprise plane ticket out to Utah from my parents (I am SO excited!!!), and Brent got a doctors bag, a few ties, sweaters, and running shoes.
My mom REALLY wanted us to get our family picture taken for her christmas present this year, so we made our way to the portrait studio. I won't lie - it was quite the stressful experience. I guess I wasn't as prepared as I thought, I felt rushed the whole time, and Kennedy wasn't the best at cooperating. Usually she is so happy and laughs all the time, but when we needed her to preform the most - is all she could do was stare at the photographer and props. It was fun to get the pictures back and despite our difficulties, I think they turned out pretty cute!
